Do You Fancy Doing a Dry Month?

These were the words that came out of my dear Husbands mouth after months of events and non stop drinking. So I thought, yeah why not?

Precisely 7 hours into our first day of March and Dougs calling me saying it’s Friday and he really wants to go to the pub. I’ve already not drank since the Saturday before so not wanting to ruin what I’ve started so didn’t encourage him, but he’s giving it the biggun and saying he’s going to the pub.

Okay mate. You do what you want.

3pm comes round and he’s walking through the back door like a little sad puppy, squinnying because no one will go for a drink with him. Obviously wasn’t meant to be.

5pm I’m with a client and hear the doors gone. Get a text “gone to the pub, won’t be long” and I’m thinking yeah okay famous last words. As it happens he walks through the door only a couple of hours later, a little merry but all on one piece and I explain that I have a wedding to work on early the next day so won’t be staying up late.

Got myself ready for bed, followed by a very reluctant Doug, who decided he wants to stay up and drink some more, which I explained he’d be doing on his own, only to hear the doorbell go.

Anyone else get anxiety when the bell goes at night? I must be getting old!

It was only one of Dougs mates who had happened to be cycling past as the very time Doug decided to stay up from some drinks.

Long story short, 3 hours later and half a litre of vodka, Dougs threatening to be sick, needs his water fed to him and passes out in bed with a bucket next to him.

Joke was on him when I felt fresh as a daisy the next morning and he felt like death warmed up.

And the best of it all! DRY MARCH IS OVER! And I’ve never fancied a beer more than I did over this last weekend.

Mans Best Friend

Evil comes in the human form of anyone who could dare hurt an animal.

Did you like the play on that Mean Girls Quote?

Bella – 7

Pepper – 7

Daisy – 4

Imagine someone running to the door every time you get home, even if you have literally just popped to the shop.

I have constant company when I go to the toilet. I never knew how much I would enjoy support when I was going for a wee.

Cuddles and affection are never more than a second away.

They don’t talk back.

They don’t judge when I look like a foot.

There are only a handful of people I would share my food with, but these three dogs could have everything on my plate.

Never in my life did I think I could love something so much that has never said a word to me. Even when they eat their own shit and then come lick my face.

Those that know me know that Bella has had her health issues the last few years, which I will delve deeper into in a later post, but all it’s taught me is that every day we get with her is a blessing, so every day she will be spoilt. As they all are. They will eat well. Play well and be loved unconditionally. And that’s the easiest part of it all.

Everybody Loves a Happy Ending

.. And no, I don’t mean the happy endings after a massage or when you’ve done the washing without your wife asking you to!

I mean the happy endings when you end up exactly where you want to be. May it be in your love life, your job, or just in your mental state.

So let’s talk about Doug, who I’m sure will be at the forefront of a lot of my posts. Unfortunately I can’t seem to get rid of him.

I met Doug, my now husband in May 2009 when I was 15, through one of his best friends. He was 18 at the time and had all that was attractive about an older man, especially his unattainability. I knew he fancied me, but was not interested in a relationship. And although I was 15, I felt much older and found we had a lot in common, to the point I would rather have him in my life as a fraction of himself over not at all.

After nearly 6 months of getting to know each other and he still wasn’t interested in having a girlfriend.

I made the very grown up decision to call it a day, which I now look back as a very mature and cut throat decision for a 15 year old, but ended up being the push Doug needed to realise I was the dogs bollocks. Thank god I’m cool, else I’d be sat at home with my dog going crazy on my own.

I made it my mission to be out all the time, and with his friends living down my road, I always made sure I looked a little sort and bumped into them, which in turn got them to tell Doug they’d seen me. Why are men so predictable?

One little week later he was blowing up my phone, worried that I’d meet someone else so he got in there first. I obviously tried to play it cool, but truth be told, I was besotted with this beautiful man that kept me on my toes. Apparently games do work – who’d have known.

By December 2009, I’d met Dougs family, he’d met mine, and things were “official”.

Any bit of alone time we got, Dougs phone was ringing off the hook. To be in demand and have a decent social life aye? A particular friend of Dougs just didn’t stop calling (in fact he still does this now, especially at the most inopportune moments). He was calling Doug to ask him if he had told me. Told me what I’m thinking?! Has he done the dirty dance with no pants with someone else?

My neurotic little mind went mad, but it turns out that Doug had told all his friends the night before he was in love with me, and they were waiting to see my response. I’m sure there was a little love drug going round. Who get that’s mushy with a group of lads.

I always knew boys were bigger girls than we are!

I think it’s safe to say, I was completely in love with him, in every way possible, but that fact he said it first, after all those months of keeping me hanging on a string was the icing on top my delicious Doug shaped cake.

And the rest is history kids. Although if Jason Statham turned up at my door, we’d have to have a little chat about those lists people do for guilt free sex.

Don’t worry, not all these updates will be soppy. Some will be sad. Some funny. Some ugly. But I promise to tell it all.

Let’s Start a Blog

img_8799The idea of starting a blog gives me anxiety. The worry of if people will critique, the worry of whether people will like it. I read blogs every week, but I always come away feeling like this person has their life together more than I do, that they achieve perfection. I think we all have to agree that people put their lives out there with a degree of sugar coating. Because who wants to see the ugly stuff?

But I want this blog to show the good, the bad, and the ugly parts. Because that’s what life is.

I want to show my life and everything that surrounds it. I’ll go back a bit and talk about those momentous occasions that have changed my life, and all the small bits that helped get me there. All the nitty gritty.

So no filters people. Just a 25 year old girl that likes to chat shit on the off chance that others may relate to her. They say a blog is cheaper than a psychiatrist don’t they?
